A Day in our EYFS Centre

At Leeming St John's EYFS Centre, each day is thoughtfully planned to provide a nurturing, engaging, and stimulating environment where children can grow and thrive.
Our sessions are structured to promote curiosity, independence, and a love of learning through a mix of child-initiated and adult-led activities.
For preschool children, you can choose for your child to attend any or all of the 5 sessions during the school day, as follows:
| Breakfast Club | 7.30am until 8.45am | Available for Reception Children and above |
| Morning Session | 8.45am until 11.45am | |
| Lunchtime | 11.45am until 12.30pm | |
| Afternoon Session | 12.30pm until 3.30pm | |
| After School Club | 3.30pm until 6.00pm | Available for Reception Children and above |
Preschool
For Preschool children, the school day is broken into two sessions. Both sessions follow a similar format with a mixture of free-flow learning and adult-lead sessions.
Our Preschool children will have a daily short rhyme time and Maths input. We will end each session by sharing all the wonderful things we have been learning, singing songs and nursery rhymes.
Throughout the sessions children will have access to free-flow learning in our continuous provision. Children can move freely between our carefully resourced indoor and outdoor environments, choosing from a range of play-based learning experiences.
During each session, children are invited to take part in adult-led focused activities designed to support development across the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These activities are planned based on the children’s interests and next steps, ensuring a personalised and meaningful learning experience. Throughout the session, adults will join children in provision, providing warm interactions and supporting children’s learning through play.
Children will be able to access a healthy snack and drink during each session. If your child is staying for lunch, they will eat in the restaurant room with all preschool and Reception children.
Reception
From Reception onwards, children have access to before and after school club. Please contact the school admin or visit our Wraparound Childcare page for more information.
Wraparound Childcare & Activities
In Reception, our day is a little more structured with daily teaching inputs in Phonics and Maths. The children have a carefully considered balance between adult-led sessions and learning through play. Reception children are taught PE, PSHE and exciting topics to help understand the world around them.
On arrival, the children will hang their bags and coats onto their peg and will do self-registration using our self-registration board. They will then enter our continuous provision. In September, whilst the children are settling into their new routines these inputs are short, and we spend more time in free-flow provision. As the year progresses, our learning inputs become slightly longer and more frequent to enable the children to be school-ready and prepared for Year 1.
During the day, children will have a healthy snack at snack time. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children are entitled to a free school meal at lunch time. The Reception children will enjoy their lunch eating with the preschool children.
The school day finishes at 3:30pm..
